How Can Corrosion Damage Wheel Bearings?

Corrosion can damage the effectiveness of wheel bearing lubrication and seals, leading to bearing failure and a host of other mechanical problems. In particular, when corrosion alters the viscosity of lubrication and its chemical make-up, it can lead to excessive friction that can shorten the useful life of wheel bearings dramatically. Bearing seals are a major line of defense against corrosion, making it important to inspect seals on a regular basis, and replace damaged units with OE-quality wheel bearings.
